I’ve created this showpack* back in 2014. Point Management modelling agency, my employer at that time, who was entering Top-3 Russian MA list, had a good run business-wise,
but was still lacking a proper visual representation on the market.
Original photos were made by Lev Efimov. Overall visual feel was born as a collaborative effort of make-up artist Tima Leo & managers of Point Management.
My task, as a lead designer was to make our models shine, compile a distinct look for the show package. Make a statement. Photographs had this almost poster-like composition & feel, so I intended to support this as well.
For the typography part of the design, I was looking for something thin, narrow and a little bit modern, . Attentica 4F font developed by Sergiy S. Tkachenko did a perfect job.
On a smaller technical stuff, I needed to deal with model’s habit of being unfaithful to their Mother Agency**. Which is pretty common practice for some of the newcomer girls, who did not get international recognition yet.
As they are trying to get as much jobs as possible, models can went for castings, that are not authorised by their mother agency’s booker.
This kind of behaviour is ruining personal booker’s work, diminishes value of model’s image. Mother Agency tries to create a certain unique aura around each of its girls, hand-picking jobs that will flourish strongest sides of model’s character.
Usually comp cards are marked with modeling agency logo, placed in the corner or other part of the image, that can be easily removed with scissors, without damaging photo. So some girls go for this, to participate in castings, without telling that they have contract obligations with other agency.
To avoid this, I came up with the idea of placing illusive “watermarks”, that will not block valuable visual information, but will protect working relationship between models and Point Management.
* Showpack is a number of cards, representing models, containing their photos & parameters. Unlike solo comp card, a card that is in a show package can be more stylised, presenting less individual qualities of a single model, but more of agency’s vision for the season.
** Mother Agency - is an organisation, that has a contract with a model and have an exclusive rights to represent her on a market. Casting selection, deals with other agencies, etc…
